Decide what you want to change
An update should answer a question about your own desk: a required feature, documented correction or support instruction. Write that question down first. If normal listening already works, do not interrupt it simply because a forum mentions a larger version number. This is a preparation and acceptance guide, not an update tool.
What M79 actually documents
FiiO’s K11 R2R M79 announcement documents an optional 1-bit DSD native-decoding mode and a manual PC update, not OTA. This is an existing release, not a new October announcement. It does not establish that PCM music sounds better or that every USB problem is fixed. Check the current official release route before treating any version as the newest.
Keep three identities separate
The standard K11, K11 R2R and your Windows USB driver are different things. Record the model printed on the unit, installed firmware and driver version. Start at the exact-model official release page; do not choose a firmware file because its filename resembles the one in a shared K11 support example. If the package scope is unclear, ask FiiO before proceeding.
Prepare a stable session
FiiO’s shared update instructions specify Windows 10 or later and warn against interrupting power or USB during the update. Arrange reliable power for the computer and DAC, allow enough uninterrupted time, and follow the current package instructions. A phone, a music playback connection or the Windows driver alone is not the firmware update process.
Check the ordinary listening route afterwards
Confirm the displayed firmware, then check your previous input, gain, output mode and volume setting before playback. Use a familiar track at a low level. Try pause and resume, application selection and your usual headphone or speaker route. Only then try an optional new format using a compatible player and file. Keep results for each route separate.
Send a useful support request
If behaviour changes, report the exact model, versions, operating system, selected input/output and the short sequence that fails. Keep the original package link. Do not flash a different model or attempt an undocumented downgrade. SoundPath Lab’s Windows setup guide supplies further context on controls and evidence limits; neither that guide nor this page reports a HiFiNaija test of your unit.
Research & owner resources
Read the original evidence and its date. Manufacturer documentation, editorial analysis and owner reports are different kinds of evidence. These references do not establish Nigerian stock, warranty or local testing.
